Solar is the fastest growing source of renewable energy. With prices dropping and technology advancing, we envision a future where solar isn’t the exception but the norm. Solar energy is a relatively simple concept: the sun’s rays hit a solar panel and the solar panel produces energy. On the other hand, when faced with the large quantity of products on the market, installation procedures and other general know-hows, solar can be quite confusing. Hopefully this blog will answer your questions and take some guessing out of the whole process, and, as a bonus, get you as excited about solar as we are.
Solaria was founded in New Mexico in 2000 as a solar technology innovation company. Although solar energy did exist at the time, the industry was pretty much non-existent. Solaria was founded with the vision to make solar energy accessible and beneficial to society as a whole. By 2003, we quickly realized our potential and made the move to Silicon Valley to tap into world-class semiconductor expertise. Our early days as a company were focused on utility scale solar applications and tracking systems. Solaria developed a tracking system technology called NEXTracker, which we sold in 2015.
PowerXT “shingling”
As time went on, we eventually switched our focus and began developing high performance solar panels for residential and commercial systems. After years of extensive research and development, Solaria introduced the PowerXT® solar panel to the US market in 2016. What makes the PowerXT® stand apart from conventional panels is its unique “shingling” technology. Like the shingles on your roof, PowerXT® panels are constructed by overlapping or “shingling” solar cells to make a higher-power, higher-efficiency and sleeker looking solar panel. Throughout our 20 years in the solar business, Solaria has amassed upwards of 250 issued and pending patents and continues to be one of the industry’s leading innovators.
